SCC Makes New Year’s Resolutions

As Scott Circle Communications looks back on our success over this past year – from being named the top PR firm for work with nonprofits to conceptualizing and announcing the launch of our new no-cost professional development course for local nonprofits (The Purpose PRogram) – we’re also looking forward at what the next decade will bring to the Circle.

Our team is always looking to learn and grow, so that we can always stay one step ahead of the curve for clients. In the spirit of the new year, here are some resolutions we are making to better ourselves professionally as we head into 2020!

Dani (Administrative Coordinator): My 2020 resolution is to improve my time management skills inside and outside of Scott Circle Communications. I have always prioritized meeting deadlines professionally, but I intend to better myself more in that aspect. I will also focus on accomplishing personal goals by sacrificing frivolous activities (and spending lol).

Daniella (Senior Associate): Over the last couple of months, while I have worked on developing and launching The Purpose PRogram, I have learned the importance of a strong network. So for 2020, I would like to be more social, to be specific, more active in networking with professional groups here in Washington, D.C. I have attended some events in the past, but this year I would like to actively participate in PR and Communications groups. I think that by taking the time to help develop my network I will be able to better share my experiences and learn from others

Dee (VP):  For 2020, my resolution is to improve my email management. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to truly reach inbox zero, but I am hopeful I can get close! This will help me keep better track of which messages still might need follow ups or responses. I also want to try to streamline any email responses so that I am sending (and hopefully receiving) fewer too.

Elizabeth (Associate): My resolution for 2020 is to start an interview series with reporters for the Inner Circle blog. At Scott Circle Communications, we are in regular contact with a wide range of reporters and always try to be a helpful resource. Learning more about reporters and how they work will help us and other PR professionals improve our relationships with the media. When we get a better understanding of how the reporters operate, we can better meet their needs – and not overwhelm them with information they are not interested in. Stay tuned for more!

Kellie (SVP): PR is a fast-paced business and with Scott Circle Communications’ steady growth, it seems like there’s hardly a free minute on my Outlook calendar any day of the week. While that’s not likely to change in 2020, I am determined to set aside time to think each day. Just think. Creative and strategic inspiration can happen anytime, anywhere - on the Metro, in line for your morning latte at Little Red Fox or coming home from a show at The Anthem. But, like meditation, it can also be a practice. In the coming year, I resolve to give myself space to be mindful of opening my mind to new ideas and connections for my clients.

Laura (President): When I started this firm, 13 years ago, we were known for our media relations work – Twitter and Facebook were brand new and Instagram didn’t even exist. As the world of public relations has changed, our PR offerings have also evolved. Over the past year, we have grown our team and our services through more digital and content creation. My goal for 2020 is to continue growing these services so we can help our clients meet their goals. And, since we work with so many mission driven organizations, the more we can amplify the message of our clients, the more we will be able to help people.

Lauren (Manager): Looking ahead to next year, my goal is to grow my web editing and video skills. I think my experience in content strategy and working closely with graphic designers has informed my point of view and editorial eye, and I’m determined to round out my creative skillset. I think W3Schools.com is an incredible, accessible resource for dipping your toe into web development – and a great way to check your work!

Matheson (Coordinator): In 2020, I would like to write more for the Inner Circle. The Scott Circle blog is a wonderful resource for tips, tricks, and insider news, curated by our team. I would like to take the opportunity to grow my writing portfolio and pass on some of the lessons we learn throughout the year. From insights about where the industry is investing to the communication styles of six iron throne contenders, our blog has become a great source of information an inspiration alike. Check it out!
