Happy new year and welcome to the January edition of the Inner Circle Round Up! We’re ringing in 2020 with new PR opportunities that can help raise voices and share stories of the organizations with whom we work. From new outlets and podcasts to new Spanish language ventures, we hope these opportunities will get you thinking.

The 19th: News Outlet on the Intersections of Women and Politics

The 19th, a new nonprofit, nonpartisan news outlet, is dedicated to covering the intersections of gender, politics and policy. Created by former Texas Tribune editors, the outlet aims to empower women and share stories that expose the gender inequities and injustices. The outlet is expected to launch this summer. In the meantime, a 19th editor will be publishing in The Washington Post under The 19th banner.

The Inner Circle Take: We shared the news of an upcoming media outlet centered around women in our November 2019 Round Up, and we’re excited to see the idea realized. This outlet is a great opportunity to lift the voices of women in elected office, women who vote and run for office and the advocacy organizations working to get women more involved.

Business Dad: A New Podcast that Highlights Working Dads

A new podcast, Business Dad, started and hosted by Reddit co founder, Alexis Ohanian, asks men across industries “How do you balance it all?” Ohanian asks successful men in business, entertainment, sports and more, to discuss being a working parent and how they balance careers and family. So far, episodes include interviews with comedian Hasan Minhaj and entrepreneur Scott Belsky.

The Inner Circle Take: Business Dad presents a profile raising opportunity for your clients’ male executives and a place where they can offer their perspectives on being a working parent. The podcast has interviewed high profile sports stars and celebrities, but we think they will open up to a wider range of industries, like nonprofit and advocacy leaders.

USA Today: New Spanish Language Vertical

USA Today plans to launch a news series, “Hecho en USA,” to share stories of Spanish-speaking Americans. The series will be in English and Spanish and will cover issues affecting the Latinx community, like lack of representation in politics and growing college attendance rates. USA Today will utilize its wide network of local newsrooms and bilingual reporters to share these underreported stories.

The Inner Circle Take: Expansion into Spanish language content in newsrooms is a growing trend we’ve been monitoring. Many advocacy issues center around Spanish speaking Americans, and USA Today’s new Spanish vertical is a great opportunity to better reach Spanish speaking audiences.
